While organizations worldwide are moving forward with mobility initiatives such as bring your own device (BYOD), many of them are not providing enough technical support, according to a recent survey released by BT Global Services and Cisco. There may be an insufficient supply of bandwidth, for example. In addition, a surprising number of mobile employees can’t access their corporate networks through a wireless connection, and a lack of tech resources is causing breakdowns in application performance. Overall, findings reveal that it’s time for businesses to step up with respect to making investments in bandwidth, cloud capabilities and other mobile-benefiting IT initiatives. “It’s clear that enabling BYOD in its many forms is about much more than cool devices and a mobile contract,” says Neil Sutton, vice president, Global Portfolio, BT Global Services. “Organizations need to consider elements of device compatibility, security, WiFi, and network and application performance, along with a focus on driving down costs.” An estimated 2,200 IT decision-makers and office workers took part in the research, which was conducted by Vanson Bourne.
